Remo Stun Botafogo 2-1 in Serie A Thriller

Remo defied the odds with a gutsy 2-1 victory over Botafogo in Serie A’s 33rd round, turning the Estádio do Remo into a cauldron of delirium with early goals from Jaja and L. Picco before surviving Edenilson’s late strike.

Remo’s Lightning Start Shocks Botafogo

The roar that greeted Jaja’s 8th-minute opener could’ve lifted the roof off. The striker pounced on Botafogo’s sluggish start, drilling home before Tite’s men had settled into their usual passing rhythm. With just 35% possession across the 90, Remo’s gameplan was clear: hit fast, defend harder.

Botafogo’s Possession, Remo’s Precision

For all their 65% possession and 13 shots, Botafogo’s xG of 0.88 told the story of sterile dominance. The turning point came in the 54th minute – Picco doubling Remo’s lead with a ruthless finish against the run of play. When D. Andrade saw yellow two minutes later for a frustrated foul, Botafogo’s composure unraveled.

The Nerve-Shredding Finale

Edenilson’s 83rd-minute strike set up a grandstand finish, but Carpini Thiago’s men held firm through seven minutes of stoppage time chaos. Goalkeeper Marcelo Rangel made just one save all night – but it came in the 94th minute, palms stinging from a last-gasp Botafogo piledriver.

This wasn’t just three points for Remo – it was a statement. For Botafogo, Tite must answer why all that possession produced just two shots on target. The title chase tightens, while in Belém, they’re dancing in the streets.
