Frustration in Fès as Maghreb and Berkane Stalemate 0-0

Maghreb Fès and Renaissance Berkane played out a fractious 0-0 draw in their Botola Pro Round 5 clash at the Stade de Fès, a match that simmered with tension but ultimately left both sets of supporters frustrated by a lack of cutting edge.

The first half unfolded like a cautious chess match, with Maghreb Fès holding 51% possession but unable to translate territorial dominance into clear chances. The defining moment came on 35 minutes when VAR intervened to deny Christopher Ibayi after a tangle in the box, setting the tone for an evening where big decisions loomed large.

Maghreb Fès’ Missed Opportunities

Rui Almeida’s side ramped up the pressure after the break, racking up 8 corners to Berkane’s 4 and forcing veteran Moroccan international Munir El Kajoui into action. The introduction of Tshegofatso Mabaso and Khalid Baba on 63 minutes injected fresh legs into Maghreb Fès’ attack, but yellow cards for Oussama Nourdine (75′) and Portuguese defender Diogo Calila (84′) revealed their growing frustration.

Renaissance Berkane’s Defensive Discipline

Bubista’s Berkane showed why they’ve developed into one of Morocco’s toughest outs, with Youssef Aït Bennasser anchoring midfield before his 77th-minute withdrawal. Though limited to just 1 shot on target all game, their Moroccan defensive core of Ismael Kandouss and Jamal Harkass stood firm amid Maghreb Fès’ late onslaught, with 22 fouls conceded across both teams underlining the stop-start nature of play.

What This Means for Both Sides

The stalemate leaves Maghreb Fès winless in three, their early-season promise stalling despite outshooting Berkane 7-2. For the visitors, this hard-earned point continues their reputation as Botola Pro’s grinders – now five matches unbeaten but still searching for the attacking fluidity that defined last season’s CAF Confederation Cup run.

As the Fès night air filled with whistles rather than cheers, both teams trudged off knowing their next fixtures – against relegation-threatened opposition – suddenly carry heightened significance in this already-tight Botola Pro campaign.
