Adams Seals Dramatic 3-2 Win for Portsmouth Over Sheffield Utd

Portsmouth clinched a dramatic 3-2 victory over Sheffield United in a Championship classic at Fratton Park, with Ebou Adams’ 89th-minute winner sending the home fans into delirium. This Round 10 clash had everything – a red card, five goals, and a late twist that will live long in Pompey folklore.

Portsmouth Dominate First Half As Sheffield Utd Collapse

John Mousinho’s men seized control early, racking up 67% possession and peppering Sheffield Utd’s goal with 11 first-half shots. The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Zak Swanson slammed home to give Portsmouth a deserved lead. Sheffield Utd’s misery compounded moments later as Hamza Choudhury saw red for a second yellow card, leaving Chris Wilder’s side a man down.

Sheffield Utd Mount Valiant Second-Half Fightback

Despite being down to 10 men, the Blades roared back immediately after halftime. Adrian Segecic doubled Portsmouth’s lead in the 54th minute, but Sheffield Utd responded with two rapid-fire goals. Japhet Tanganga halved the deficit in the 59th minute before Thomas Cannon equalised in the 67th, assisted by Kalvin Phillips’ inch-perfect pass. Fratton Park was stunned into silence.

Ebou Adams The Hero As Portsmouth Seal Victory

With the game seemingly headed for a draw, up stepped Ebou Adams to send Fratton Park into raptures. The Portsmouth midfielder ghosted into the box in the 89th minute and coolly slotted home, capping off a stunning seven-goal thriller. Portsmouth’s dominance was evident in the stats – 24 shots to Sheffield Utd’s 11, and double the number of accurate passes.

What This Result Means for Both Teams

For Portsmouth, this dramatic victory injects momentum into their Championship campaign, moving them into playoff contention. Sheffield Utd, meanwhile, are left to rue Choudhury’s red card and defensive lapses that cost them a hard-earned point. Both teams will look to build on this emotional rollercoaster when Championship action resumes next weekend.
