Stuttgart Stroll Past Slovan Bratislava 3-0 in Champions League

Slovan Bratislava 0-3 VfB Stuttgart: A Champions League Lesson

VfB Stuttgart delivered a ruthless Champions League masterclass, crushing Slovan Bratislava 3-0 in the League Stage – 2 clash at Tehelné pole. From the first whistle, the Bundesliga side’s technical superiority and relentless pressing left the Slovak champions chasing shadows.

Stuttgart Seize Control Early

The warning signs came early for Slovan Bratislava when Ramón Hendriks saw yellow for a cynical 12th-minute foul. Stuttgart’s midfield trio of Angelo Stiller, Genki Prömel, and Bilal El Khannouss (booked himself in the 26th minute) dominated possession, completing more passes in the first half (327) than Slovan would manage all game (358).

The breakthrough came in the 29th minute. Stiller’s visionary through ball split Slovan’s defence apart, allowing Deniz Undav to race through and slot coolly past Dominik Takáč. The German striker’s fourth Champions League goal of the campaign left the home crowd suddenly silent.

Slovan’s Nightmare Continues After Break

Yaya Touré’s halftime team talk failed to spark a response. Instead, Stuttgart doubled their lead in cruel fashion when Sandro Cruz’s attempted clearance from a Josha Vagnoman cross cannoned into his own net in the 64th minute. The own goal summed up Slovan’s evening – frantic defending meeting German precision.

Touré threw on attacking substitutions, including Roman Cerepkai and Alasana Yirajang, but Stuttgart’s defence marshalled by Finn Jeltsch and Jérémy Chabot stood firm. The visitors recorded 8 shots on target to Slovan’s solitary effort, with goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow barely breaking sweat.

Demirović Rubs Salt in Wounds

Just when Slovan thought the humiliation was over, substitute Ermedin Demirović twisted the knife in added time. The Bosnian international latched onto Lorenz Assignon’s cross to rifle home Stuttgart’s third, completing a performance that sends a warning to their Champions League rivals.

For Slovan Bratislava, this heavy defeat leaves their European dreams in tatters after just two games. Their 36% possession and single shot on target tell the story of a team outclassed at this level. Stuttgart, meanwhile, sit pretty with their perfect start intact – a statement win that proves their credentials as dark horses.
