Chivas Fight Back to Deny 10-Man Tigres 1-1

Guadalajara Chivas rescued a 1-1 draw against 10-man Tigres UANL in a Liga MX Apertura clash that swung from tactical chess match to breathless finale after Juan Brunetta’s red card just before halftime.

Tigres Strike First Against the Run of Play

The Estadio Akron held its breath in the 36th minute when Brunetta, the diminutive Argentine playmaker, latched onto Diego Lainez’s threaded pass and slipped his finish under José Rangel. It was brutal efficiency from Tigres, who had been outpossessed 2-to-1 but countered with surgical precision.

Chivas responded by turning the screw – 16 first-half shots, 69% possession, waves of attack down the flanks. But just as the hosts threatened to overrun Tigres, the game’s pivotal moment arrived in first-half stoppage time.

Brunetta’s Moment of Madness

Having given Tigres the lead, Brunetta cost them dearly with a reckless lunge on Santiago Sandoval that earned a straight red. The Argentine left his teammates to face 45 minutes with ten men – and Chivas smelling blood.

Guadalajara coach Gabriel Milito threw on attackers Ángel Sepúlveda and Leonel Calderón at halftime, their 29 total shots eventually yielding an equaliser when substitute Jordan Carrillo tapped in Bryan Gonzalez’s cross in the 77th minute. The young Mexican’s first Liga MX goal sparked pandemonium in the stands.

Tigres’ Gritty Rearguard

Despite being outshot 29-7, Tigres’ makeshift defence – including 19-year-old debutant Joaquim Pereira – held firm under siege. Goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán made five saves, none better than his fingertip stop to deny Carrillo a winner in the 83rd minute.

The draw leaves both sides in mid-table ahead of next week’s Liga MX fixtures – Chivas at Atlas in the Clásico Tapatío, while Tigres host Club América in a blockbuster clash that will test their depleted squad.
