Jimenez Hat-Trick Seals 5-0 Santos Laguna Rout

Santos Laguna Obliterate Queretaro in Liga MX Apertura Masterclass

Santos Laguna erupted for five unanswered goals against 10-man Club Queretaro in a devastating Liga MX Apertura Round 12 performance that saw teenager Tahiel Adrian Jimenez announce himself with a breathtaking hat-trick. The Estadio Corona crowd roared as their side transformed an early penalty miss into a ruthless exhibition of attacking football, leaving Queretaro’s defence in tatters by full-time.

Santos Laguna’s Early Storm

The warning signs flashed early when Francisco Villalba skied his 14th-minute penalty after Mauricio Cuevas won the spot-kick. But instead of hesitating, Santos Laguna doubled down. Jimenez, just 19, opened the floodgates on 29 minutes with a vicious strike from the edge of the box – the first senior goal of his career. Eduardo Aguirre then capitalized on Queretaro’s disorganization just before half-time, nodding home Cuevas’ cross to make it 2-0.

Club Queretaro’s Collapse

Any hope of a Queretaro fightback evaporated in a disastrous seven-minute spell. Jimenez struck again in the 63rd minute after Ezequiel Bullaude’s weaving run, before veteran defender Diego Reyes saw his yellow upgraded to red via VAR. Down to ten men and drowning in Santos Laguna’s 58% possession, Queretaro conceded twice more – Javier Guemez converting an 87th-minute penalty before Jimenez completed his hat-trick in stoppage time from Javier Abella’s cross.

What This Means for Both Teams

The statistics tell a brutal story: Santos Laguna’s 4.14 expected goals dwarfed Queretaro’s 1.54, while their 13 shots inside the box showcased their relentless pressure. For Renato Paiva’s men, this statement victory keeps alive their Liga MX title ambitions. Meanwhile, Queretaro coach Eduardo Gonzalez faces tough questions after this defensive capitulation – particularly concerning Reyes’ recklessness and their inability to register a shot on target after the 55th minute.

As Santos Laguna fans serenaded their young hat-trick hero into the night, one truth became undeniable: when this attacking unit clicks, they’re capable of dismantling anyone in Mexican football.
