Pachuca Punish 10-Man Atlas 4-1 in Apertura Thrashing

Pachuca’s Early Onslaught Stuns Atlas

CF Pachuca tore apart 10-man Atlas 4-1 in a brutal Liga MX Apertura Round 16 clash at Estadio Jalisco, turning the hosts’ 66% possession into a statistical irrelevance. The nightmare began in the 5th minute when Manuel Capasso’s attempted clearance ricocheted into his own net, setting the tone for a defensive horror show.

Oussama Idrissi doubled Pachuca’s lead just seven minutes later, coolly slotting home after Salomón Rondón’s incisive pass split Atlas’ shaky backline. The Moroccan winger’s celebration in front of the stunned Rojinegros faithful felt like a dagger twist – this was going to be a long night for Hernán Crespo’s men.

Atlas’ Brief Resurgence Crushed

Capasso momentarily redeemed himself in the 51st minute, powering home a header to make it 2-1, but hope was fleeting. Adonis Frías’ VAR-upgraded red card for a reckless challenge in the 83rd minute extinguished any comeback dreams, leaving Atlas to play the final exchanges with nine men after Ryan Mmaee’s earlier booking.

Rondón compounded the misery from the spot in the 75th minute after a clumsy foul, before substitute Eduardo Dos Santos rubbed salt in the wounds with a 92nd-minute tap-in. The scoreline flattered Atlas – Pachuca’s clinical finishing (4 goals from 1.91 xG) exposed Crespo’s tactical rigidity as his side registered just 1.26 expected goals despite dominating the ball.

Liga MX Apertura Implications

This humiliation leaves Atlas’ playoff hopes hanging by a thread, their defensive frailties (15 goals conceded in last 5 matches) now a full-blown crisis. For Pachuca, this statement victory underlines their title credentials – Idrissi and Rondón’s burgeoning partnership yielded 2 goals and an assist, while their counterattacking ruthlessness (4 goals from just 34% possession) will terrify future opponents.

As the Jalisco stands emptied long before full-time, the contrast was stark: Pachuca’s players embraced like champions elect, while Atlas skipper Aldo Rocha trudged off with his face buried in his shirt. Some wounds take more than stitches to heal.
