Caldeira’s Late Heroics Seal 3-2 Minnesota MLS Comeback

Minnesota United FC Complete Stunning Comeback vs St Louis City

Minnesota United FC snatched victory from the jaws of humiliation, overturning a two-goal deficit to beat St Louis City 3-2 in a Major League Soccer regular-season thriller that tested both teams’ playoff mettle.

All Saints’ Church bells hadn’t finished ringing across St Paul when the visitors struck twice in ten brutal minutes. Rafael Navarro’s clinical fourth-minute finish punished tentative defending before Jeon Sang-bin doubled the advantage with a ruthless counter (10′). By the 24th minute, Minnesota’s Aziel Jackson was booked for dissent – the yellow card flaring like a distress signal.

St Louis City’s Early Dominance Unravels

For 45 minutes, Bradley Carnell’s side executed textbook MLS away performance: compact, quick transitions, lethal in the box. Their 1.23 xG efficiency belied just six shots on target while weathering Minnesota’s growing pressure (11 first-half shots, 27 overall).

The thaw began when Kelvin Yeboah’s driving run carved open St Louis’ left flank, teeing up Jackson to slot home (49′). The Loons midfielder pointed skyward, shushing critics who’d questioned his temperament post-booking. Two minutes later, Jeon Sang-bin earned St Louis’ second yellow – the pendulum swinging with each dugout protest.

Minnesota United FC’s Relentless Second-Half Surge

Yeboah’s scrappy 68th-minute equalizer ignited Allianz Field, the Ghanaian bundling home after Mauricio González’s cross caused chaos. St Louis’ sudden fragility saw their 55% possession rendered meaningless, goalkeeper Roman Bürki making seven saves but still undone by Marcus Caldeira’s poised 86th-minute winner from Joaquín Pereyra’s inch-perfect cross.

The statistics told of Minnesota’s bloody-minded dominance: 19 shots inside the box, 2.67 xG, eight blocked efforts. Center-back Cherrion Valerius epitomized their desperation, throwing himself at every cross as St Louis’ attacks dissolved into hopeful long balls.

This was American soccer at its rawest – a Midwest derby where tactics gave way to pure adrenaline. Minnesota climb back into playoff contention with consecutive wins, while St Louis’ road woes continue. When these teams meet again on Decision Day, expect fireworks louder than the Mississippi River barges.
