Levski Stun Plzen 2-1 in Europa League Thriller

Plzen 1-2 Levski Sofia: Visitors Shock Czech Holders

Levski Sofia tore up the script in Plzen, coming from behind to steal a 2-1 victory against the Czech giants in a Europa League group stage thriller that defied all possession statistics. For forty-four minutes, the Bulgarian underdogs clung on like survivors in a storm – until Everton Bala’s sucker punch changed everything.

Plzen’s Possession Meets Levski’s Steel

The home side’s 63% dominance translated into just 2 shots on target all night, their sterile control mocked by Levski’s lethal efficiency. Mazire Soula’s 20th-minute booking for a tactical foul set the tone – the visitors would bend, but not break. Until the break, they didn’t even creak. Then, on the stroke of halftime, Reinaldo slipped Everton Bala through. One touch. One finish. Plzen’s stadium fell silent.

Kabongo Sparks False Dawn for Plzen

Christopher Kabongo’s 62nd-minute equalizer, pounced home after Cheick Souare’s driving run, should have been the catalyst. The Czechs made a triple substitution, pouring forward… only for Reinaldo to strike back instantly. Maicon’s rampaging run. A cross begging to be buried. The Brazilian-born winger obliged with a ruthless header – 2-1 after 65 minutes, against the run of play but utterly deserved.

Levski’s Heroic Rearguard Seals It

Plzen’s desperation grew as Stefan Pirgic’s late yellow card summed up their frustration. Levski’s goalkeeper Stoyan Vutsov made just one save all night – but it was the only one that mattered, tipping over a last-gasp piledriver. The Bulgarians celebrated like trophy winners, their 37% possession producing 3 shots on target and maximum points.

For Plzen, this is a wake-up call – dominance means nothing without cutting edge. For Levski Sofia? A statement victory that puts them firmly in the mix for knockout qualification. The underdogs are barking loudest in Group 3.
