Braga Tame Gent 2-0 to Spark Europa Conference Dreams

Braga Dominate Gent in Europa Conference League Clash

SC Braga seized control of their Europa Conference League destiny with a commanding 2-0 victory over Gent, settling into second place in Group B after a performance that blended early intensity with ruthless second-half finishing. The Estadio Municipal de Braga erupted after just three minutes when Viktor Gomez – rampaging forward from right-back – slammed home Gorby’s cutback to stun the Belgian visitors before they’d even settled. The noise was deafening, the statement immediate: this Portuguese fortress would not fall easily.

Gent’s Frustration Grows as Braga Turn the Screw

Gent’s attempts to respond were smothered by Braga’s relentless pressing, their 52% possession yielding just one tame shot on target all night. Maksim Paskotsi’s 32nd-minute yellow for hauling down Gabriel Silva epitomised their growing frustration, while Braga’s Adrien Barisic and Tiago Sa picked up cautions of their own in a niggly first half that saw seven fouls in 15 manic minutes. When Michel Ange Balikwisha limped off injured before half-time, replaced by Lukas Henes, Gent’s hopes took another crushing blow.

Martinez Puts the Game to Bed as Braga Shine

The second half became a shooting gallery – Braga firing 22 attempts to Gent’s 10 – with Guillermo Martinez finally converting their dominance in the 76th minute, tapping in Gomez’s low cross after the defender turned provider. Gent keeper Davy Roef made seven saves to keep the score respectable, but his heroics couldn’t mask a dismal xG (0.46) that showed Gent never truly threatened. By the time Momodou Sonko and Kenzo Geraerts threw on attacking reinforcements, Braga were already turning their attention to topping the group.

What This Victory Means for Braga and Gent

For Braga, this was a night that proved their European credentials – moving to four points with a performance blending defensive steel (87% pass accuracy) and attacking flair. Gent, meanwhile, face an uphill battle with zero points from two games, their lack of cutting edge (just four shots inside the box) a major concern. As the home fans serenaded their heroes into the night, one truth became clear: in this form, Braga look capable of going deep in the Europa Conference League.
