Témara's dominance yields no reward as Marrakech punish early
Kawkab Marrakech's 1-0 win flattered Widad Témara's wastefulness in a match where the home side's 65% possession and 21 corners translated to just 5 shots on target. Saleh Essallami's 5th-minute strike (assisted by Hamza Smaali) separated the sides, with Kawkab clinically converting one of their 5 on-target attempts despite seeing only 35% of the ball.
Témara's territorial dominance is underlined by outshooting Kawkab 13-8 overall, but their lack of cutting edge was decisive. The hosts failed to score despite generating 21 set-piece opportunities to Kawkab's solitary corner, while both sides registered 5 shots on target – highlighting Kawkab's superior efficiency in the final third. Kawkab's defensive discipline also told, committing 3 yellow cards to Témara's 1 as they protected their early lead.
The key stat: Kawkab conceded 21 corners without conceding – a remarkable defensive rearguard that underpinned their smash-and-grab victory.
