Analysis The numbers behind the result
Torreense’s late surge masks Ararat-Armenia’s dominance
Despite a narrow 3-2 victory, Torreense were fortunate to claim all three points, as Ararat-Armenia’s superior control and chance creation (1.49 xG vs. Torreense’s 1.9) suggested a more balanced outcome. The home side took an early lead through Jorge Aguirre in the 13th minute but were reduced to 10 men after his red card in the 25th minute. Ararat-Armenia capitalised on the numerical advantage, with Karen Muradyan and Bruno Wilson scoring in the 41st and 58th minutes respectively, putting them in control.
Torreense’s late resurgence, scoring twice in stoppage time through Javi Vazquez and Musa Drammeh, masked their struggles for much of the game. Ararat-Armenia dominated possession (58%), outshot Torreense (19 to 12), and created more dangerous chances (10 shots inside the box vs. Torreense’s 7). However, their inability to convert their dominance into a decisive lead proved costly. The key stat was Ararat-Armenia’s 8 shots on target, six of which were saved, highlighting their missed opportunities.
