Everton's 3-1 victory was deserved based on superior chance creation, with their 2.29 xG outperforming Coventry's 1.42. The scoreline mirrored the expected goals gap, reflecting Everton's sharper finishing in key moments. Despite Coventry edging possession (53% to 47%) and matching Everton's shot count (15 to 16), the hosts' 13 shots inside the box (versus Coventry's 8) underlined their greater threat in dangerous areas.

The game turned on Thierno Barry's four-minute brace (56', 61'), capitalising on Everton's ability to transition quickly after Coventry's opener through Yann Gboho (52'). Barry also teed up Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's decisive third (81'), with Everton's seven shots on target (to Coventry's four) demonstrating their clinical edge. The telling stat? Everton's 2.29 xG — their ability to generate higher-quality chances from fewer passes (425 to Coventry's 437) proved decisive.
