Conti Snatches Late Heartbreaker as Gimnasia Edge Huracan 2-1

Liga Profesional Clausura – Matchday 13

Germán Conti wrote his name in blood-red ink across El Globo’s broken hearts, his 97th-minute header sealing a brutal 2-1 Gimnasia victory after Huracan had fought so desperately to salvage their Liga Profesional Clausura clash.

Gimnasia L.P. Strike First Through Fernández

Ignacio Fernández needed just 18 minutes to silence the Estadio Tomás Adolfo Ducó, peeling away from Rodrigo Fernández to meet Pedro Silva’s whipped cross with a glancing header that kissed the far post on its way in. The Huracan defence, statuesque as statues go, watched it unfold.

The hosts’ frustration boiled into chaos – three yellow cards in nine minutes as Oscar Cortés, Leonardo Gil and Rodrigo Fernández all saw bookings for reckless lunges. Diego Martínez’s 53rd-minute double substitution screamed desperation: Pussetto and Peralta on for Gil and Kalinger, but Gimnasia’s compact 4-4-2 held firm under aerial bombardment.

Huracan’s Penalty Drama

When Facundo Waller tumbled under Harlen Castillo’s 80th-minute challenge, VAR confirmed what 15,000 throats already knew: penalty. Jordy Caicedo, ice in his veins despite earlier yellow-card petulance, sent Hugo Castillo the wrong way. Parity. Progressively deafening bedlam.

Huracan’s stats told of dominance – 56% possession, 18 shots to 11, 11 corners to 3 – but Gimnasia always carried the more clinical threat. Six shots on target to Huracan’s four. And then, the sucker punch.

Conti’s Crushing Final Act

Seven minutes into added time, Fernández turned provider, floating a free-kick onto the forehead of unmarked centre-back Conti. The net bulged. The stands emptied. The whistle blew.

For Huracan, a fourth straight winless game leaves them nervously glancing over their shoulders. For Gimnasia, this smash-and-grab extends their unbeaten run to five – a team learning to thrive in the tightrope moments. The Clausura’s knife-edge drama continues.
