Atletico San Luis 3-1 Necaxa: Apertura Week 9 Drama
The Estadio Alfonso Lastras erupted as Atletico San Luis overturned an early deficit to hammer Necaxa 3-1 in a fiery Liga MX Apertura clash, turning the match on its head with a second-half own goal that shattered Necaxa’s resistance.
Necaxa Strike First Through Carranza
Julián Carranza’s 10th-minute opener for Necaxa silenced the home crowd, the Argentine peeling away at the back post to volley home Javier Ruiz’s whipped cross. But San Luis responded like a wounded animal – Felipe Mora pouncing on a defensive error in the 27th minute, driving his shot through Christopher Andrade’s legs to level.
Andrade’s Howler Turns the Tide
The game exploded in the 54th minute when Necaxa keeper Andrade’s nightmare unfolded – fumbling a routine cross straight into his own net under pressure from Mora. Three rapid substitutions from Necaxa boss Marcelo Varini couldn’t stop the bleeding – Eduardo Águila’s 81st-minute rocket sealing it, his 25-yarder kissing the crossbar on its way in.
San Luis dominated possession (59%) and chances (12 shots to Necaxa’s 10), their midfield trio of Salles-Lamonge, Macías and Duarte suffocating Necaxa’s creativity. Pedro Pedraza’s late yellow card summed up Necaxa’s frustration as their early promise evaporated.
What This Means for Both Sides
For San Luis, this was a statement win – climbing the table with a performance blending resilience and flair. But Necaxa’s early-season woes deepen, their defensive frailties exposed by individual errors. With the Apertura reaching its midway point, Necaxa must regroup fast before the season slips away.
