Berkane Stun Raja Casablanca 2-0 in Botola Pro Clash

Renaissance Berkane cemented their title credentials with a commanding 2-0 victory over Raja Casablanca in a pulsating Botola Pro Round 6 fixture at Stade Municipal de Berkane. Youssef Mehri and Yassine Labhiri struck decisive blows as the home side outmuscled their illustrious rivals in a match that crackled with intensity from first whistle to last.

Berkane’s Early Dominance Pays Off

The hosts came flying out the traps, their 54% possession translating into relentless pressure. The breakthrough arrived in the 29th minute when Mounir Chouiar’s incisive pass found Mehri, who coolly slotted past El Mehdi Al Harrar. The goal was coming – Berkane had already peppered Raja’s goal with 8 shots before finding the net.

Tempers flared as Ayoub Khairi saw yellow for a late challenge in the 21st minute, setting the tone for a physical encounter. Raja’s frustration boiled over when Mohamed Boulacsout joined him in the book for a cynical foul just five minutes after Berkane’s opener.

Raja’s Failed Fightback

Paco Jémez rolled the dice at half-time with a triple substitution, but his reshaped side barely threatened. Berkane’s defense stood firm, restricting the visitors to just 3 timid attempts all game. When Labhiri lashed home an unstoppable 85th-minute strike to double the lead, the Stade Municipal erupted – this was a statement victory against the Green Eagles.

Raja’s misery was compounded when Youness Dahmani saw yellow in stoppage time, capping a night where nothing went right for the Casablanca giants. Berkane’s tactical discipline shone through – committing just 3 fouls to Raja’s 5 while outshooting them 11-3.

What This Means for Both Sides

For Berkane, this result announces them as genuine title challengers. Bubista’s men played with the swagger of champions, their 2-0 margin flattering Raja if anything. As for Jémez’s side, alarm bells will be ringing after such an insipid display against direct rivals. The Botola Pro table makes grim reading for Raja tonight, while Berkane can dream big.

With continental commitments looming for both clubs, this result could prove pivotal in the marathon Moroccan season. On this evidence, Berkane’s orange shirts might just be the ones to beat.
