Forsberg Seals Stunning 2-0 NY Red Bulls Win Over Miami

The New York Red Bulls delivered a statement performance with a 2-0 victory over Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in MLS Regular Season action, sparked by a calamitous own goal and sealed by Emil Forsberg’s late dagger.

New York Red Bulls Strike Early Through Miami Mishap

Red Bull Arena erupted in the 7th minute when Carlos Henrique Casimiro’s attempted clearance under pressure from Cameron Harper cannoned into his own net. The hosts, pressing Miami relentlessly despite just 34% possession, made their early dominance count through sheer aggression.

Michael Bradley’s side could have been three up by halftime, with Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair producing stunning saves to deny Cade Cowell and Julian Hall. The stats told the story – New York’s 13 first-half shots dwarfed Miami’s paltry 2, their 3.39 xG a damning indictment of Kily González’s disjointed side.

Inter Miami’s Struggles Continue Despite Possession

Messi cut a frustrated figure as Miami’s 66% possession yielded just 0.87 expected goals. Their only meaningful chance came via a Luis Suárez half-volley expertly tipped over by Ethan Horvath. González’s quadruple substitution on 74 minutes – hauling off Riquelme Fillipi among others – smacked of desperation.

The tactical chaos backfired spectacularly. As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Emil Forsberg latched onto Harper’s through ball before coolly slotting past St. Clair to spark bedlam in Harrison. Miami’s misery was compounded when Santiago Morales saw yellow for a reckless challenge in the aftermath.

What This Means For Both MLS Sides

This was New York at their high-pressing best – Forsberg’s leadership and Harper’s direct running laying bare Miami’s defensive frailties. With playoff momentum building, Bradley’s men now sit firmly in the Eastern Conference elite.

For Miami, questions will grow after a fourth straight away defeat. Messi’s subdued display – marked by Julian Bazán’s rugged man-marking – encapsulated a worrying trend of big-game no-shows. The Herons must regroup fast before their postseason hopes slip away.
