Aberdeen
Aberdeen’s hopes crumbled in cruel fashion as St Johnstone snatched a 1-0 Premiership victory with a last-gasp goal that left Pittodrie in stunned silence.
Aberdeen’s Frustrations Mount Early
The Dons dominated possession in the opening exchanges, their midfield trio buzzing with intent but struggling to carve open a resolute St Johnstone defence. Time and again, promising moves broke down on the edge of the box as the visitors parked men behind the ball. The home crowd’s groans grew louder with each misplaced final pass.
St Johnstone’s Tactical Discipline Pays Off
As the game wore on, St Johnstone grew into the contest, their compact shape frustrating Aberdeen at every turn. The Perth side barely registered an attacking threat themselves, but their discipline was absolute, snapping into tackles and blocking everything Aberdeen threw at them. The match seemed destined for a goalless stalemate.
Late Heartbreak for Aberdeen
Then came the sucker punch in the dying embers of the game. Against the run of play, St Johnstone broke forward and found the net with their first meaningful effort, sending their travelling fans into raptures while Pittodrie stood frozen in disbelief. The clock showed 89 minutes – Aberdeen had been undone at the death.
As the final whistle blew, St Johnstone’s players collapsed in exhausted celebration while Aberdeen’s stars sank to their knees. This wasn’t just a defeat – it was a brutal lesson in football’s cruel unpredictability. The Premiership table now makes grim reading for the Dons, while St Johnstone’s smash-and-grab heroics could prove invaluable come May.
