PSG Overcome Le Mans Fightback in 3-1 Ligue 1 Thriller

Paris Saint-Germain Weather the Storm to Maintain Ligue 1 Charge

Paris Saint-Germain rode waves of defiance from Le Mans before ultimately cruising to a 3-1 victory in a tempestuous Ligue 1 encounter at the Parc des Princes. The scoreline flattered Luis Enrique’s side during a patchy performance, but late fireworks from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Maghnes Akliouche ensured the hosts consolidated their title credentials.

Early Pressure Pays for PSG

The script seemed written after just 16 minutes when VAR confirmed Achraf Hakimi had been fouled in the box. Young centre-back Lucas Beraldo, handed penalty duties in Kylian Mbappé’s absence, drilled his 19th minute spot-kick low to the keeper’s left – his first senior goal sparking raucous celebrations under the Parisian floodlights.

PSG’s 72% first-half possession told only half the story. Their sterile dominance nearly proved costly when Le Mans striker Louis Mafouta, played through by Lucas Calodat, celebrated wildly after slotting past Matvei Safonov in the 54th minute. VAR’s green light ignited the traveling support – suddenly the capital giants looked vulnerable.

Le Mans’ Resistance Crumbles

Enrique’s quadruple substitution on the hour mark proved inspired. Within 60 seconds of entering, Kvaratskhelia picked possession 25 yards out, danced past two challenges, and unleashed a curling effort that clipped the underside of the bar on its way in. The Georgian’s 61st minute magic restored order.

Le Mans’ discipline evaporated as Mafouta saw yellow for dissent before Akliouche put the game beyond doubt in the 68th minute. Warren Zaïre-Emery’s incisive through ball split the defense, allowing the French winger to dink an audacious finish over the onrushing Kocik.

Late Drama as VAR Denies PSG

A chaotic finale saw Le Mans collect three late bookings, PSG substitute Désiré Doue miss a 93rd minute penalty, and VAR chalk off a second spot-kick after Vitinha was deemed to have dived. The whistle brought relief for the visitors after wave after wave of Parisian attacks.

This victory sees PSG maintain their perfect home record, while Le Mans return north knowing their first-half organization deserves more. Both sides now regroup for midweek fixtures – the hosts eyeing Champions League progression, the visitors licking wounds ahead of a relegation six-pointer.
