Late Wydad Penalty Denies Amal Tiznit in 1-1 Stalemate

Wydad AC 1-1 Amal Tiznit: Botola Pro Drama Under the Casablanca Lights

The Stade Mohammed V erupted in equal parts relief and frustration as Wydad AC clawed back to a 1-1 draw against stubborn Amal Tiznit in Matchday 4 of Morocco’s Botola Pro, the hosts’ dominance undone by wasteful finishing until Silvère Ganvoula’s coolly-taken 62nd-minute penalty.

Amal Tiznit Strike First Against The Run of Play

For 52 minutes, Wydad’s 66% possession and 20 total shots resembled a training exercise against Amal’s drilled defensive lines. Yet the visitors struck first when Zahir Essalhi converted a penalty against the run of play, sending Rachid Ghanimi the wrong way after Oussama Houssni’s earlier yellow card had hinted at Amal’s growing frustration.

Wydad AC’s Persistence Pays Dividends

The response was immediate. Paulo Sérgio’s side poured forward, their 10 corners finally paying dividends when Ganvoula – Wydad’s towering Congolese striker – leveled from the spot nine minutes later. The hosts should have won it late on, spurning three gilt-edged chances as Amal’s goalkeeper Yassine Faqir became an unlikely hero.

What This Result Means For Both Sides

For Wydad, this stalemate dents early title momentum after last season’s runners-up finish. Yet their xG of 2.7 tells a story of cruel luck rather than crisis. Amal Tiznit, meanwhile, march on unbeaten – their 34% possession masterclass proving this promoted side won’t be pushovers. Both now turn to continental commitments, with Wydad hoping their shooting boots return for CAF Champions League duties.
