Fiorentina Outgun Venezia in Serie A Goal Fest
The floodlights trembled over the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo as Fiorentina emerged 4-2 victors in a Serie A thriller that saw teenager Franco Mastantuono claim a devastating hat-trick. Venezia led early through Akor Adams’ 22nd-minute strike, but the game turned on its head with two Mastantuono goals in 60 seconds (29′, 30′) before Michael Pellegrino (66′) and Mastantuono’s clincher (84′) rendered Antonie Hainaut’s late consolation (86′) irrelevant.
Venezia’s Early Promise Shattered
For 22 minutes, the Lagunari rode the waves of optimism. Gianluca Busio’s threaded pass released Akor Adams, who buried his chance with the cold precision of a Venetian assassin. The Curva Sud erupted – but Mastantuono’s electric double-punch crushed their dreams before halftime. First, the 18-year-old Argentine met Álex Jiménez’s cross with a guided header (29′), then capitalized on Beto’s layoff to rifle home from 15 yards (30′). Venezia’s possession dominance (63%) became a hollow statistic as Joel Schingtienne’s yellow card (38′) and Busio’s injury (44′) signaled defensive collapse.
Fiorentina’s Ruthless Edge
The Viola smelled blood after halftime. Vanoli’s triple substitution on the hour – introducing Wilfried Gnonto and Pellegrino – proved inspired. Pellegrino’s tap-in from Nicolò Fagioli’s cutback (66′) exposed Venezia’s ragged backline, before Mastantuono completed his treble with an unmarked header from a corner (84′). Despite Antonie Hainaut’s late glancing header (86′), Fiorentina’s clinical efficiency (10 shots on target, 3.35 xG) contrasted starkly with Venezia’s wastefulness (4 on target, 0.71 xG).
What This Means for Both Teams
For Fiorentina, Mastantuono’s breakout performance announced their top-four credentials. The teenager now has the weight of expectation on his shoulders ahead of their Europa League campaign. Venezia’s defensive frailties will haunt Stroppa – they’ve now conceded 10 goals in 4 games. The arrival of Torino next week feels like a must-win for the sinking Lagunari.
