Banfield Edge Tigre 2-1 in Clausura Thriller

Tigre vs Banfield: Clausura – 12

Banfield defied logic, history, and a relentless Tigre storm to emerge 2-1 victors in a Clausura thriller that saw the hosts dominate 68% possession but leave bloodied on their own turf. The Estadio José Dellagiovonna swayed between hope and heartbreak as Tigre unleashed 26 shots to Banfield’s 10—only to be undone by ruthless counterattacks that left their title hopes hanging by a thread.

Tigre’s Early Shock Turns to Fury

Adrián Balboa silenced the home crowd after just six minutes, pouncing on a defensive lapse to slot past Zenobio against the run of play. But Tigre’s response was ferocious—Jerónimo Domina equalized four minutes later, burying Santiago Lopez Grobin’s cross to ignite belief. The match exploded into chaos before the half-hour: three yellow cards in 60 seconds, two for Tigre, as frayed tempers mirrored the helter-skelter action.

Banfield’s Precious Counterpunch

Against the tidal wave of Tigre pressure (19 shots inside the box before halftime), Tomas Adoryan delivered the sucker punch in the 36th minute. Santiago Esquivel’s pass carved the defense open, and Adoryan’s precise finish punished Tigre’s frailties. The hosts’ desperation grew visible—Domina earned a yellow for dissent in stoppage time as Banfield’s low block (just 32% possession) held firm.

Tigre’s Futile Siege

The second half became a torture chamber of near-misses: 8 shots on target, 9 corners, yet Banfield keeper Rodriguez stood invincible with 6 saves. When Valentin Moreno rattled the crossbar in the 78th minute, Tigre sensed fate’s cruelty. Banfield’s three late yellows—including Adoryan’s for time-wasting—only heightened the agony.

What This Means

For Tigre, the stats (2.46 xG vs. Banfield’s 0.67) mock their inability to finish. Their Clausura challenge now requires miracles. Banfield, meanwhile, celebrate a smash-and-grab masterpiece—their battling spirit and Adoryan’s composure writing another chapter in their giant-killing lore.
