Cuello Stuns Talleres as San Lorenzo Grind Out 1-0 Win

San Lorenzo Edge Tight Clausura Battle Against Talleres

The roar that shook Nuevo Gasómetro to its foundations told the story. San Lorenzo 1-0 Talleres Cordoba. A single moment of brilliance from Alexis·Cuello on 63 minutes decided this tense Clausura matchday 8 encounter, keeping the home side’s unbeaten run intact through sheer defensive grit.

First Half: Tactical Stalemate in Bajo Flores

For 45 minutes, these two heavyweights circled each other like prize fighters – Talleres controlling 53% possession but San Lorenzo’s compact 4-2-3-1 absorbing every probe. The tension spilled over when Matías Galarza saw yellow for a late trip (37′), followed by Rodrigo Auzmendi’s cynical pull-back (43′) as both teams traded fouls instead of chances.

Statistics told the tale of caution: just 5 shots on target combined, Santiago Devecchi’s goalkeeping heroics denying Agustín Álvarez Martínez twice from close range while at the other end, Facundo Farías fired straight at Guido Herrera with the half’s clearest opening.

Cuello’s Moment of Magic

The game needed a spark – and Alexis Cuello provided it with devastating simplicity. Picking up a loose ball 25 yards out, the winger drove infield past two challenges before unleashing a curling right-footer that kissed the far post on its way in (63′). Nuevo Gasómetro erupted as Cuello wheeled away in delight, soon joined by every outfield player in a celebration that spoke volumes about this team’s spirit.

Talleres responded by throwing on Valentín Dávila and Giovanni Baroni (68′), but San Lorenzo’s backline stood firm – Devecchi pulling off a miraculous reaction save from Rubén Botta’s point-blank header (71′) as the visitors’ frustration grew. The vital stats? 19 total shots to San Lorenzo’s 4 on target, but the only number that mattered was on the scoreboard.

San Lorenzo’s Defensive Masterclass

As the clock ticked into added time, San Lorenzo’s defensive resolve turned heroic. Captain Diego Braghieri marshalled his backline through six minutes of stoppage time, throwing his body in front of everything as Talleres launched 15 crosses into the box. When the final whistle blew, the entire bench rushed onto the pitch – this 1-0 felt like a tournament victory.

For Talleres, the numbers made bitter reading: 53% possession, 443 passes and six shots on target yielded nothing. Their 15 fouls and Depietri’s late yellow (60′) told of a team that lost control at the crucial moment. San Lorenzo’s 47% possession belied their efficiency – seven blocked shots, 12 crucial interceptions, and a clean sheet built on sacrifice.

What This Means For Both Sides

This result keeps San Lorenzo’s Clausura push alive – now unbeaten in four with three clean sheets. For Talleres Cordoba, familiar away struggles continue with just one win on the road this campaign. When these rivals meet again at Estadio Mario Kempes in round 21, revenge will be on the menu – but tonight belongs to Cuello and the blue-and-red side of Buenos Aires.
