Rennes Demolish Auxerre 4-1 in Ligue 1 Rout

Rennes Sparkle as Auxerre Collapse in 4-1 Thrashing

Rennes electrified Roazhon Park with a merciless 4-1 demolition of Auxerre, delivering a Ligue 1 masterclass that left the visitors staggering. This wasn’t just a win – it was a statement, a six-goal spectacle that carved Auxerre open like a surgeon’s scalpel.

Rennes Feast on Early Chaos

The floodgates burst open before Auxerre could blink. Rennes smelled blood inside three minutes, their high press forcing a catastrophic defensive error. The breakout was swift, the finish colder than a Breton winter – 1-0. By the 18th minute, Auxerre’s defence was in tatters again, carved open down the left before a cutback found its killer. Two shots, two goals, utter carnage.

Auxerre’s Flimsy Resolve

Auxerre’s consolation before half-time was a Band-Aid on a bullet wound. Their backline folded like wet cardboard under Rennes’ relentless waves. The third goal – a thunderbolt from outside the box – sparked delirium in the stands. When the fourth slammed home in the 68th minute, even the home fans winced at the brutality.

Rennes’ Statement to Ligue 1

This was more than three points. Rennes played with the swagger of title challengers, their fluid attacks leaving Auxerre’s midfield chasing shadows. The stat sheet told the story: 62% possession, 18 shots to Auxerre’s paltry 6. This is what happens when a team still tasting European football meets relegation scrappers.

For Auxerre, the long bus ride home will sting. Conceding four to a direct rival? Unforgivable. Rennes, though, march on – their season’s promise glowing brighter than ever.
