Real Sociedad Edge Levante 2-1 in La Liga Thriller
Real Sociedad climbed to fifth in La Liga after a pulsating 2-1 victory over Levante at the Reale Arena, where Benat Turrientes’ first-half strike sealed a hard-fought three points.
Levante Stunned by Early Real Sociedad Blitz
The Basques exploded from the traps, Orri Steinn Óskarsson slamming home from close range after just six minutes. But Levante weathered the storm and struck back against the run of play on 22 minutes – Nacho Pérez nodding in Thiago Cruz Fernandez’s pinpoint cross to silence the Anoeta.
Turrientes Seizes Momentum for Real Sociedad
Parity lasted just five minutes. Gonçalo Guedes, electric down the left, fed Turrientes who danced past two challenges before lashing a 15-yarder into the bottom corner. The 62% possession stats told the story – Real Sociedad’s midfield trio suffocated Levante, restricting them to just six shots all game.
Levante’s Late Push Falls Short
Three second-half yellow cards summed up Levante’s frustration as Manu Sánchez, Yanis Musuayi and Víctor García all saw cautions in a desperate late push. But Remiro’s sprawling save from Karl Etta Eyong in stoppage time preserved Real Sociedad’s lead – their 14 shots inside the box underlining their dominance.
What This Means for Both Sides
For Imanol Alguacil’s men, this gritty win keeps them in touch with the Champions League places. Levante slip to 15th after their third straight defeat – Luis Castro’s tactical tweaks failing to spark an attack that mustered just 0.7 xG. The real test comes next: Sociedad host Atlético, while Levante face a relegation six-pointer against Almería.
