Belgrano Stun Racing 2-0 in Argentine Clausura Upset

Racing Club 0-2 Belgrano Cordoba: Clausura Shocker at Estadio Presidente Perón

Belgrano Cordoba ripped up the script with a smash-and-grab 2-0 victory over Racing Club in the Argentine Primera División Clausura, defying their hosts’ 62% possession with two devastating counter-punches from Lucas Zelarayán and Franco Vázquez.

Racing Club’s Possession Without Punch

The Estadio Presidente Perón crackled with expectation as the home side dominated early exchanges – Racing completing 430 passes but repeatedly running into Belgrano’s yellow-card wall. Four first-half bookings for the visitors, including two in two minutes for Ramiro Hernandes and Adrian Sánchez, couldn’t halt their tactical discipline. When Zelarayán fired through a forest of legs after Passerini’s 41st-minute layoff, 13,000 Racing voices choked mid-chant.

Belgrano’s Warrior Spirit

Racing threw on attackers like Matko Miljevic and Duván Vergara, but Belgrano ‘keeper Matías Vicentini became a human brick wall with six saves. VAR cruelly denied Emiliano Rigoni in the 70th minute, but when Vázquez slid home Zelarayán’s 95th-minute cross, the blue-and-white bench erupted in pure catharsis – this wasn’t luck, but a masterclass in counterattacking precision.

What This Means for Both Sides

For Racing, this is a seismic blow in their Clausura title chase – all that possession (13 shots, just 4 on target) now feels painfully hollow. Belgrano’s warriors march on with momentum, their four yellow cards badges of honor in a triumph built on sacrifice. The Clausura has its first major upset, and Zelarayán’s name is now etched in derby folklore.
