The 2-2 draw slightly flattered Vélez Sarsfield, as Platense generated superior metrics (1.4 xG vs Vélez's 1.1 based on shot volume and locations) yet failed to convert a 45th-minute penalty through Agustín Lagos. Vélez's clinical finishing (2 goals from 6 shots on target) masked defensive vulnerabilities, conceding 16 total shots (13 inside the box) against 53% Platense possession.

The pivotal phase came early with goals from Ronaldo Martínez (5’) and Bautista Merlini (7’) setting a frenetic tone. Martínez’s second (54’, assisted by Simón Escobar) showcased Vélez’s efficiency, but Platense’s late pressure told via Franco Zapiola Yamartino’s 88th-minute equaliser (assisted by Lagos). Platense dominated key metrics: +6 in total shots, +6 in box attempts, and matching Vélez’s 4 corners despite their lower shot conversion. The decisive stat: Platense’s 11 shots off target, including Lagos’s penalty miss, cost them victory in a game they edged territorially.
