Analysis The numbers behind the result
Huracan stun River Plate with clinical finishing
River Plate's 1-2 defeat to Huracan was a glaring example of possession not translating into results. Despite dominating with 75% possession, 20 total shots, and an xG of 1.62, River Plate struggled to convert their chances, with only 3 shots on target. In contrast, Huracan, with just 25% possession and 7 total shots (2 on target), managed to secure a win with an xG of only 0.23. Their efficiency in front of goal was decisive, with Oliver Cortes and Lucas Blondel scoring in the 9th and 80th minutes respectively.
Huracan's defensive discipline was evident, committing 14 fouls and earning 3 yellow cards, but they limited River Plate to only 4 corners. River Plate's Tomas Galvan did pull one back in the 65th minute, assisted by Angel Correa, but it wasn't enough. The telling stat was Huracan's clinical finishing, scoring twice from just 7 shots, underscoring their ability to capitalize on limited opportunities.
