Analysis The numbers behind the result
El Geish dominant but wasteful in a game of cancelled goals
The 1-1 draw was a fair reflection of a game where both sides had goals disallowed, though El Geish will rue their inability to convert possession into chances. With 59% possession, El Geish controlled the tempo and created more shots (11 vs 10) and shots inside the box (10 vs 5) than Olympic El Qanah, but only managed one shot on target. Conversely, Olympic El Qanah were more clinical, scoring with one of their two shots on target, courtesy of Mawuli Wayo's 44th-minute strike, assisted by Hazem Abosena.
El Geish’s Islam Mohareb levelled in the 67th minute, capitalising on Mohamed Atef’s assist, but their dominance was undermined by poor finishing and a cancelled penalty in the 42nd minute. Olympic El Qanah also saw a goal ruled out in the 60th minute and another in stoppage time, highlighting the game’s chaotic nature. Ultimately, El Geish’s inability to translate possession and territorial advantage into clear chances, evidenced by their solitary shot on target, was decisive.
