Analysis The numbers behind the result
Central Cordoba's midfield control cancels Riestra's early strike
A 1-1 draw fairly reflected the balance of play, with Central Cordoba de Santiago's midfield dominance (59% possession, 443 total passes to Riestra's 307) compensating for Deportivo Riestra's early breakthrough. Milton Celiz's 3rd-minute opener for Riestra (1 of just 1 shot inside the box all game) was cancelled out by Michael Santos' 38th-minute equaliser - assisted by substitute Fernando Martinez whose introduction in the 18th minute improved Cordoba's creativity.
Despite Riestra's slightly higher shot count (7 to 10), Cordoba showed greater cutting edge with double the shots inside the box (4 vs 2) and three times as many blocked shots (5 vs 2), suggesting more concerted pressure. Both sides had 3 corners and similar shot accuracy (4 on target each), but Cordoba's territorial control was evident in their superior pass accuracy (345 completed vs Riestra's 209). The key difference came in midfield, where Cordoba's 132 more completed passes and 11 successful free kicks (vs 9) allowed them to dictate tempo after falling behind.
