Analysis The numbers behind the result
Six-goal draw masks Al-Qadisiyah's early dominance, Al-Ettifaq's second-half resilience
A 3–3 draw flattered neither side equally. Al-Qadisiyah dominated the opening 26 minutes, striking twice through Quiñones (12') and Retegui (15') to establish a 2–0 lead, and held 51% possession throughout. Yet they managed only 3 shots on target across the full 90 minutes, a telling return given they engineered 13 total attempts. Al-Ettifaq's early fragility — they conceded without registering a shot on target in the first quarter — was compounded by a yellow card to Meshal Al-Aeli in the sixth minute, forcing early tactical adjustments.
The pivot arrived at 26 minutes when Bersant Celina pulled one back for Al-Ettifaq, signalling their threat despite inferior possession. Al-Ettifaq then seized the second half, converting twice in 21 minutes: Álvaro Medrán equalized at 64' (fed by Duda), and Jordan Larsson restored parity at 85' (Medrán again the architect). Al-Qadisiyah's Mohammed Hamad Al-Qahtani had breached the line at 81' to briefly reclaim the lead, but Al-Ettifaq's penetration in the final third proved decisive when it mattered. Al-Ettifaq's five substitutions (including a double change at 45') and four shots on target — matched only by three from Al-Qadisiyah — underscored their adaptation. The decisive stat: Al-Qadisiyah recorded zero corner kicks all match, a critical constraint on set-piece creativity, while Al-Ettifaq's repositioning and late intensity converted scarcity of possession into clinical finishing.
