Marcus Rashford shaved the post with a stinging drive in the 12th minute, while Rasmus Hojlund headed narrowly over from a whipped Fernandes cross. Despite enjoying 65% possession in the first half, Erik ten Hag’s side couldn’t find a breakthrough against Tottenham’s resolute defence.
Tottenham Strike Against the Run of Play
Against the run of play, Tottenham landed a sucker punch in the 67th minute. James Maddison slid a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Son Heung-min, who raced clear before coolly slotting past Andre Onana. The South Korean’s clinical finish silenced Old Trafford and sent the visiting fans into raptures.
Fernandes Rescues Manchester United at the Death
Just when it seemed Tottenham would hold on for a vital away victory, Bruno Fernandes stepped up in the dying seconds. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, the Manchester United captain unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner, sending the home crowd wild. It was a moment of individual brilliance that salvaged a point for the Red Devils.
What This Result Means
For Manchester United, Fernandes’ late heroics maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, though they’ll rue missed chances to win the game. Tottenham showed resilience and tactical discipline but will be devastated to have conceded so late. Both sides remain firmly in the title race after this thriller.
