Sepulveda Stuns Gimnasia as Platense Steal 2-1 Win

Gimnasia La Plata’s hearts were shattered in stoppage time as Bruno Sepulveda’s predatory finish sealed a dramatic 2-1 comeback win for Platense in a pulsating Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura clash at the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo.

Gimnasia Strike First in Chaotic Encounter

The hosts erupted after just 10 minutes when Agustín Módica latched onto a loose ball in the box, thrashing it past Cozzani to send the terraces into raptures. Platense thought they’d equalised through Gonzalo Lencina on 37 minutes, only for VAR to cruelly chop it off – justice perhaps for their wasteful finishing after peppering Rigamonti with 10 first-half shots.

Palermo’s Subs Flip the Script

Platense manager Martín Palermo rolled the dice with a double change on 58 minutes, introducing Maximiliano Amarfil and Franco Zapiola Yamartino. The latter would prove pivotal, delivering the inch-perfect cross for Juan Carlos Gauto’s 79th-minute header that finally beat Rigamonti – the keeper’s eighth save of the night not enough to keep it out.

Gimnasia Collapse in Cruel Final Act

As the clock ticked into stoppage time, Zapiola Yamartino again haunted Gimnasia, slipping Sepulveda through on goal. The substitute made no mistake, slotting past Rigamonti to complete a gut-wrenching turnaround. Diego Franco’s men collapsed to the turf – their 49% possession and 1.54 xG counting for nothing against Platense’s relentless 24-shot barrage.

What This Means for Liga Profesional Argentina

Platense’s smash-and-grab moves them clear of relegation worries, while Gimnasia’s thin playoff hopes took another blow. The visitors showed the steel of champions – outshooting their hosts 24-14 and dominating the xG battle 2.46 to 1.54. For Gimnasia? Only despair, as their fourth straight winless game leaves them glancing nervously over their shoulders.
