Ghazl El Mehalla Shock Al Ittihad 2-1 in Premier League Battle
Ghazl El Mehalla pulled off a stunning Premier League upset, edging Al Ittihad 2-1 in a match that crackled with intensity from the first whistle. The underdogs struck twice before halftime and survived a nervy second half to claim a famous victory.
Early Aggression Sets Tone
Ittihad’s Momen Awad saw yellow after just two minutes for a reckless challenge, setting the tone for a physical encounter. But it was El Mehalla who seized control, Ashraf Fattah Abdel Sheta breaking the deadlock on 31 minutes with a clinical finish after Abdel Rahman Osama’s incisive pass split the defense.
Gomaa Double Delight Before Break
The hosts doubled their lead in stoppage time when Amr Gomaa latched onto Mohamed Salem Ekbad’s through ball, rounding the keeper with ice-cool composure. Ittihad’s double substitution at halftime screamed desperation – but paid immediate dividends as Hossam Hassan halved the deficit just 47 seconds after the restart with a fierce strike.
El Mehalla’s Resilient Rearguard
The visitors dominated possession (54%) but created fewer clear chances, their xG of 0.96 trailing El Mehalla’s 1.26. Ahmed Yasser’s 63rd-minute booking summed up the hosts’ increasingly physical approach as they dug deep, blocking five shots in a desperate defensive display.
When referee finally blew, the stadium erupted. This wasn’t just three points – it was proof that even against Egypt’s giants, passion and organization can triumph. For Hamza El Gamal’s Ittihad, the inquest starts now. For Khaled Galal’s battlers? Pure, unadulterated belief.
