El Fahli Penalty Puts FAR Rabat Past Widad Témara 1-0

Yassine El Fahli’s 60th-minute penalty proved decisive as FAR Rabat edged Widad Témara 1-0 in a fiercely contested Botola Pro third-round fixture at Stade Moulay Hassan. The military club ground out victory in a match where discipline frayed and chances came at a premium.

FAR Rabat’s Early Aggression

The hosts came flying out the blocks, their high press rattling Widad Témara into early mistakes. That intensity boiled over in the 13th minute when midfielder Moussa Ndockyt crunched into a challenge, earning the game’s first yellow card. The Témara backline held firm though, with captain Abdelilah Khouidsi marshalling his troops through Rabat’s early storm.

Widad Témara’s Defensive Struggle

As the first half wore on, the visitors grew into the contest – only for Mohamed Gari to join Ndockyt in the book for a cynical trip on the touchline. Both sides’ frustration mounted as attacks broke down, the half-time whistle revealing grim statistics: just one shot on target between them. Rabat boss Mohamed Amine Alioua reacted instantly, hooking the booked Ndockyt for Adam Hadraf during the interval.

The Deciding Moment

The breakthrough came from controversy – Khouidsi clipping a Rabat winger to concede a penalty that VAR upheld after a nervous wait. El Fahli stepped up on the hour mark, sending the keeper the wrong way with unshakable composure. Widad threw everything forward in response, making five second-half substitutions, but Rabat’s back five stood firm – Ouarkhane and Bouriga making crucial blocks in stoppage time to preserve their clean sheet.

What This Means For Both Sides

For FAR Rabat, this gritty win keeps them in touch with the Botola Pro’s early pace-setters, proving they can grind out results when their attacking flair misfires. Widad Témara will rue their lack of cutting edge, dropping into the relegation places after registering just 0.6 expected goals. Both sides face midweek fixtures – Rabat traveling to Renaissance Zemamra while Témara host Maghreb Fez, needing to rediscover their scoring touch fast.
