Deportivo La Coruña 1-1 Levante – La Liga Drama at Riazor
Bil Nsongo’s second-half strike wasn’t enough as Daniel Requena’s late leveller shattered Deportivo La Coruña’s dreams of three points in a gut-wrenching 1-1 draw at Riazor. The Galicians led for just 19 minutes before Levante’s surgical counter left 23,000 home fans choking on their chorizo.
Depor’s Battle Against Levante’s Possession
Antonio Hidalgo’s men absorbed waves of first-half pressure (54% possession for Levante) but their back four held firm – until Luismi Cruz’s 42nd-minute yellow for chopping down Enzo Bardeli exposed jangling nerves. Levante fired 11 shots but found Leo Román in inspired form, the Depor keeper denying Thierno Fernández twice from point-blank range.
The tension erupted in the 63rd minute. Nsongo, the teenage winger, latched onto Mario Soriano’s through ball and coolly slotted past Mat Ryan. Riazor shook – but Levante boss Luís Castro had aces up his sleeve.
Levante’s Late Heartbreak for Depor
Substitute Petar Ratkov proved the catalyst, skinning Adria Altimira before squaring for Requena’s clinical 82nd-minute equaliser. Depor’s 4-4-2 collapsed like a house of cards as Levante’s fresh legs overwhelmed them – their 1.12 xG reflecting wasted chances that’ll haunt Hidalgo all week.
Nine minutes of stoppage time brought bedlam. Altimira earned a needless yellow, Depor’s bench screamed for a phantom penalty, but Levante’s defence stood firm through five corners to claim their hard-earned point.
For Depor, this feels like defeat – their winless run stretching to three matches. Levante, unbeaten in four, showed the streetwise qualities that could define their season. Both sides now prepare for midweek cup ties knowing La Liga’s unforgiving marathon leaves no room for regrets.
