Santiago Stunner! Central Cordoba, Estudiantes Fight to 2-2 Draw

Central Cordoba and Estudiantes LP Serve Up Clausura Thriller

Central Cordoba de Santiago and Estudiantes LP played out a pulsating 2-2 draw in Matchday 12 of Argentina’s Liga Profesional Clausura, a match that swung on a first-half red card, two rapid-fire goals, and a VAR-awarded penalty that kept the visitors in it.

Estudiantes Strike First Through Monsalve

The visitors silenced the Estadio Alfredo Terrera after just 22 minutes when Fabricio Pérez carved open the defense with a delightful through ball, leaving Miguel Monsalve to slot past Aguerre with the calmness of a veteran striker. Estudiantes’ 59% first-half possession and 10 shots to Central’s 4 showed their early control.

Garra Charrua: Central Cordoba’s Blitz Response

The lead lasted just 15 minutes. In a 60-second whirlwind, Leonardo Sequeira pounced on Diego Barrera’s cutback in the 37th minute before Michael Santos turned the game on its head, finishing Marco Iacobellis’ cross first-time to ignite the terraces. The hosts’ 16 shots inside the box – 6 more than Estudiantes – proved their attacking intent.

Medina’s Meltdown and VAR Drama

Estudiantes’ night unraveled when manager Alexander Medina was sent off in first-half stoppage time for dissent. But VAR intervened moments later, spotting a handball that let Edwuin Cetre bury a 45+5′ penalty. The 22-year-old’s ice-veins finish made it 2-2 at the break despite playing a man down.

A Second Half of Near Misses

Central Cordoba’s 41% possession belied their dominance, hitting the woodwork twice and forcing Iacovich into 6 saves. Estudiantes, reduced to counterattacks, saw Aguerre deny Palacios late on. The xG told the story: 3.01 to 2.47 in the hosts’ favor.

What This Result Means

For Central Cordoba, it’s another home game without victory, but the fightback showed character. Estudiantes LP will rue dropped points but take heart from holding on with ten men. Both clubs remain mid-table, needing wins in Matchday 13 to spark Clausura campaigns.
