Atletico-MG Deny Atletico Paranaense in 2-2 Thriller

Atletico Paranaense 2-2 Atletico-MG – Serie A Drama Unfolds

Atletico Paranaense and Atletico-MG shared the spoils in a pulsating 2-2 Serie A encounter at the Arena da Baixada, where Lyanco’s 97th-minute equaliser broke home hearts after Kevin Viveros looked to have won it in stoppage time.

Atletico Paranaense’s Flying Start

The home side erupted after just 8 minutes when Kerwin Vargas latched onto Gilberto’s through ball, slotting past Gabriel Delfim to send the Curitiba faithful into raptures. But Bernard, the veteran winger, silenced them in the 27th minute with a composed finish against the run of play – Atletico-MG’s first shot on target.

Atletico-MG’s Disciplinary Meltdown

The turning point came in a chaotic 6-minute spell after the hour mark. Tomás Pérez’s arrival as a substitute lasted just 5 minutes – his studs-up lunge upgraded from yellow to red by VAR. Minutes later, Claudinho thought he’d put Atletico Paranaense ahead, only for VAR to chalk it off for offside.

The visitors’ backline, now down to 10 men, creaked under relentless pressure. Atletico Paranaense unleashed 31 total shots – 10 on target – with wing-back Lucas Esquivel terrorising Lyanco down the left. Yet somehow, Delfim’s heroics (8 saves) kept them alive.

Atletico Paranaense’s Agony Sealed in 97th Minute

Just when it seemed Viveros’ 93rd-minute tap-in would steal it, Lyanco rose highest from Thiago Borbas’ cross to nod past Mycael in the dying embers. The Atletico-MG defender’s first goal of the season sparked wild scenes in the away end, while Odair Hellmann’s men slumped to the turf.

The result leaves both teams in mid-table mediocrity – Atletico Paranaense’s playoff hopes fading after failing to capitalise on 51% possession and 17 shots inside the box. For Eduardo Domínguez’s side, this smash-and-grab point could be a season-defining escape.
