Sarmiento Stun Aldosivi 3-1 in Late Clausura Drama

Juan Manuel Marabel and Julian Mavilla struck late for Sarmiento Junin to seal a dramatic 3-1 away victory over Aldosivi in the Liga Profesional Argentina Clausura Round 12, igniting celebrations among the traveling fans while home supporters trudged out of Estadio José María Minella in disbelief.

The match exploded into life when Junior Marabel gave Sarmiento the lead in the 18th minute, drifting between defenders to meet Jhon Renteria’s clever pass before slotting past Ignacio Chicco. But Aldosivi hit back within two minutes through captain Lucas Castro, who powered home Martín García’s cross to send the home crowd into raptures.

Aldosivi’s discipline unravels

What followed was a collapse in composure from Javier Sanguinetti’s men. Three yellow cards flashed between the 27th and 29th minutes – first to coach Sanguinetti himself for dissent, then to Nicolás Zalazar and Leonardo Sigali for reckless challenges as their 4-4-1-1 shape creaked under pressure.

When Castro joined them in referee Fernando Rapallini’s book just before halftime for a late lunge, Aldosivi had committed 11 fouls to Sarmiento’s 6 – a statistic that told the story of their growing frustration despite near-equal possession (49% to 51%).

Sarmiento’s clinical late show

The second half became a war of attrition until the 86th minute, when substitute Jonathan Herrera found space behind Aldosivi’s ragged backline to square for Julian Mavilla’s simple finish. Three minutes later, Herrera capped his cameo by latching onto Thyago Ayala’s long ball to slot the dagger through Chicco’s legs.

Sarmiento’s xG of 1.77 to Aldosivi’s 0.87 reflected their superior cutting edge – all three shots on target found the net, while the hosts wasted 6 efforts off target despite 14 total attempts.

What this result means

For Sarmiento, this smash-and-grab victory breathes life into their Clausura campaign, moving them away from relegation fears. Aldosivi’s fifth yellow card of the night (for García in the 83rd minute) symbolized a team unraveling when they needed cool heads – their mid-table ambitions now in doubt after such a self-inflicted collapse.

As both teams look ahead to Matchday 13, Sarmiento will ride this momentum while Aldosivi must regroup quickly before their discipline problems cost them further points in Argentina’s grueling top flight.
