Viseu Stun Estoril 2-1 with Late Primeira Liga Drama

Academico Viseu 2-1 Estoril: Primeira Liga Round 8

Soufiane Messeguem wrote himself into Academico Viseu folklore with an 88th-minute winner to complete a dramatic 2-1 comeback against Estoril in Primeira Liga’s eighth round, sending the Estadio do Fontelo into raptures.

First-Half Tension Boils Over

The match crackled with intensity from the first whistle, Estoril’s Jordan Holsgrove earning an early yellow card for a reckless 27th-minute challenge. Two minutes later, Viseu sent their supporters wild as Cihan Kahraman latched onto Anthony Correia’s through ball to slot home (29’). The scorer turned villain moments later, picking up a needless yellow (31’) to halt Viseu’s momentum.

Estoril Hit Back Through Guitane

After Estoril introduced Milan Robin at halftime, Rafik Guitane leveled in the 56th minute with a composed finish from João Carvalho’s defense-splitting pass. The visitors thought they’d done enough, but Viseu’s 51% possession told the story of a side refusing to yield.

Messeguem’s Magic Moment

With tension mounting and both sides trading yellow cards, substitute Alejandro Mestanza became the architect of glory. His 88th-minute cross found Messeguem, whose thunderous header beat Joel Robles to complete a triumph that felt written in the stars.

What This Means for Both Sides

For Viseu, this smash-and-grab win – sealed despite being outshot 15 to 15 and trailing on xG (1.42 vs 0.81) – proves their resilience under Bruno Pinheiro. Estoril’s Vasco Matos will rue missed chances as his side remain perilously close to the drop zone. The Primeira Liga’s drama continues, but tonight belongs to Viseu’s heroes.
