Abha
Abha and Al Khaleej Saihat played out a pulsating 1-1 draw in Saudi Pro League Round 3, with Joshua King and Keshim Al Qahtani trading first-half goals at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Sports City Stadium. The tension was palpable from the first whistle, with both sides knowing victory could kickstart their league campaigns.
Joshua King Stuns Abha Early
Al Khaleej Saihat struck first against the run of play in the 17th minute. Taking advantage of a rare lapse in Abha’s defensive shape, Josh King clinically finishing made it 1-0 to the visitors. The Norwegian striker’s predatory instincts were on full display as he latched onto a loose ball inside the area.
Abha Hit Back Through Al Qahtani
But Abha, roared on by their home supporters, roared back in the 24th minute. Mohammed Al Dawsari’s inch-perfect pass found the electric Keshim Al Qahtani, who made no mistake from 12 yards out. The Saudi international’s composed finish sent the home fans into raptures.
Second Half Turns Into Tactical Battle
Both managers reshuffled their decks at halftime. Abha’s Damir Buric brought on Lorient Rosier and Firas Al Ghamdi to add more creativity. Al Khaleej Saihat’s Jose Gomes responded by introducing Hussein Al Eisa for Sultan Al Amri to solidify midfield.
Cards Fly Late as Tensions Rise
As legs tired, tackles flew in. Michy Batshuayi saw yellow in the 51st minute for a cynical foul, with Al Khaleej Saihat’s Pedro Rebocho joining him in the book ten minutes later for a reckless challenge. Mohammed Malayekah’s late yellow summed up Abha’s frustrations as they couldn’t find a winner despite piling on late pressure.
What This Means
The point edges Abha back on track after a shaky start to the season. With 52% possession and 15 shots, their dominance deserved more. For Al Khaleej Saihat, King’s goal provides hope their attack can fire them up the table. Both teams will look to build on this performance when league action resumes next week.
