Benfica Seal Dominant 3-1 Victory Over Lech Poznan in Europa League

Benfica secured a 3-1 victory over Lech Poznan in the UEFA Europa League League Stage – 4, delivering a clinical performance that left the Polish side grasping for answers. The Eagles soared from the outset, showcasing their dominance with precision passing and relentless attacking.

Benfica’s Early Dominance

The home side wasted no time asserting their authority. In the 6th minute, Rafa Silva broke through Lech Poznan’s defense with a sharp finish, sending the crowd at Estádio da Luz into raptures. Benfica’s early goal set the tone for the match, with the Portuguese giants controlling 56% of possession and peppering the goal with 24 shots, 11 of which were on target.

Lech Poznan’s Struggles

Lech Poznan found themselves on the back foot for much of the game. Y. Agnero’s yellow card in the 27th minute symbolized the visitors’ frustration. Despite their efforts, they managed just 6 shots, with only 5 on target, and their goalkeeper made 8 saves to keep the scoreline somewhat respectable.

Second Half Surge

Benfica continued to press, and in the 67th minute, Gianluca Prestianni doubled their lead with a well-taken goal, assisted by Heorhii Sudakov. Lech Poznan briefly rallied, with Leo Bengtsson pulling one back in the 72nd minute, offering a glimmer of hope. However, Benfica swiftly reasserted their dominance.

Closing the Deal

In the 90th minute, Heorhii Sudakov sealed the victory with a clinical finish, assisted by Enzo Barrenechea. The goal capped off a stellar performance for Benfica, who finished with an expected goals (xG) of 2.16 compared to Lech Poznan’s 0.5.

This result underscores Benfica’s strong position in the UEFA Europa League, while Lech Poznan will need to regroup and find solutions before their next fixture.
