Juventus Edge AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in Thrilling Europa League Clash

Juventus secured a gritty 2-1 victory over AZ Alkmaar in a pulsating UEFA Europa League League Stage – 4 match. The Bianconeri weathered a second-half storm at AFAS Stadion to emerge triumphant, leaving Alkmaar’s hopes hanging by a thread.

AZ Alkmaar’s Early Struggles

The hosts found themselves on the back foot early when Teun Koopmeiners, facing his former club, fired Juventus ahead in the 19th minute. Randal Kolo Muani’s slick assist split the defense, allowing Koopmeiners to slot home. AZ’s frustration grew when Wesley Hoedt earned a yellow card five minutes later for a rash challenge. Juventus struck again in the 37th minute, with Kolo Muani turning scorer this time. Nick Woltemade’s clever through ball found the French forward, who finished with precision.

Juventus Hold Firm Under Pressure

AZ Alkmaar emerged from halftime with renewed purpose, dominating possession and peppering the Juventus goal. Despite their 56% possession and 18 total shots, only three tested goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian stopper stood tall, making crucial saves to preserve Juventus’ lead. Mexx Meerdink’s 88th-minute strike, assisted by Elijah Dijkstra, set up a nervy finale, but AZ couldn’t find the equalizer. Juventus’ defense, marshaled by Federico Gatti, held firm under intense pressure.

Juventus’ Tactical Discipline Seals the Win

Juventus’ tactical discipline shone through, with Andrea Cambiaso, Juan Cabal, and Jeff Ekhator all receiving yellow cards for their defensive efforts. The visitors’ 44% possession belied their efficiency, converting two of their three shots on target. Luciano Spalletti’s side now sits comfortably in the League Stage, while AZ Alkmaar must regroup quickly to keep their Europa League dreams alive. This result underscores Juventus’ resilience and AZ’s missed opportunities, leaving fans on both sides breathless until the final whistle.
