Gençlerbirligi Strike Early Against Alanyaspor
The writing was on the wall for Alanyaspor after just 60 seconds. Oğulcan Ülgün latched onto Franco Tongya’s incisive pass and slotted home coolly to send the home fans into raptures. It was a dream start for Gençlerbirligi, who smelled blood against a shaky Alanyaspor defense.
The visitors tried to respond, but wasteful finishing and a stubborn Gençlerbirligi backline kept them at bay. Pedro Mendes’ yellow card in the 39th minute was a rare blip in an otherwise dominant first half for the hosts.
Gençlerbirligi Turn the Screw on Alanyaspor
Alanyaspor’s hopes of a comeback were extinguished in a catastrophic second half. Franco Tongya, the architect of the first goal, turned scorer in the 59th minute, finishing Adama Traore’s delivery with aplomb. Before Alanyaspor could regroup, Tiago Gouveia made it three just seven minutes later, again assisted by Traore.
The misery deepened for Alanyaspor when Pedro Mendes redeemed his earlier booking with a clinical strike in the 68th minute. Göveia then rubbed salt in the wounds with his second and Gençlerbirligi’s fifth in the 78th minute, capping off a truly astonishing performance.
What This Result Means for Gençlerbirligi and Alanyaspor
For Gençlerbirligi, this 5-0 demolition is a statement of intent. Their clinical finishing, with five goals from just seven shots on target, showcased a ruthlessness that will strike fear into future Süper Lig opponents. Franco Tongya and Tiago Gouveia were unplayable, while Adama Traore’s two assists highlighted his creative brilliance.
Alanyaspor, meanwhile, are left to pick up the pieces after a disastrous outing. Despite enjoying 59% possession, they registered a pitiful expected goals of 0.50, underscoring their toothless attack. Three yellow cards capped a night to forget for the visitors, who must regroup swiftly to avoid a relegation battle.
As the Süper Lig season gathers pace, Gençlerbirligi have sent a clear message: underestimate them at your peril. Alanyaspor, meanwhile, must rediscover their fighting spirit — and fast.
