Hinestroza Heroics Hand Vasco 3-2 Thriller Over Corinthians

Vasco da Gama snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with a heart-stopping 3-2 comeback win over Corinthians in Serie A’s 32nd round, sealed by Marino Hinestroza’s electrifying late double at a bouncing Sao Januario.

The home crowd erupted in the 35th minute when Jose Luis Rodriguez rifled Vasco ahead against the run of play, capitalizing on their 63% possession dominance. But Corinthians turned the game on its head after the break – Gustavo Henrique powered home Breno Bidon’s 50th-minute corner before Matheus Bidu swept in Fabrizio Angileri’s cross seven minutes later to stun the hosts.

Vasco’s Relentless Pressure Rewarded

Pedro Emanuel’s side refused to buckle, unleashing 18 shots inside the box to Corinthians’ 8. The breakthrough came when substitute Hinestroza – on for Andrés Gómez just two minutes after the opener – pounced on a loose ball in the 88th minute. Then, with the clock ticking into stoppage time, the Colombian wizard spun past two defenders before drilling home David’s assist to send the stands into meltdown.

Corinthians Collapse Proves Costly

Clarence Seedorf’s men paid dearly for sitting deep, mustering just 37% possession. Rodrigo Garro’s first-half booking set the tone for a nervy defensive display, compounded by Angileri and Jesse Lingard’s late yellows as frustration boiled over. Breno Bidon’s withdrawal after his assist proved pivotal, with Vasco exploiting the midfield void to complete their remarkable turnaround.

What This Means For Both Sides

This wasn’t just three points – it was a statement. Vasco’s never-say-die spirit keeps their continental qualification dreams alive, while Corinthians’ collapse raises serious questions about their mentality. The Rio giants now face Flamengo riding this tidal wave of belief. For the Timao, a derby against Palmeiras becomes must-win after surrendering a lead their xG of 0.77 barely deserved.
