Torres Seals Sarmiento’s Fate as Gimnasia Triumph 2-0

Gimnasia L.P. roared to a commanding 2-0 victory over Sarmiento Junin in Liga Profesional Argentina’s Clausura – Round 14, with Ignacio Fernández and Franco Ramón Torres delivering knockout blows under the floodlights. The home crowd erupted in the 13th minute when Fernández unleashed a thunderbolt from the edge of the area — a goal that set the tone for Gimnasia’s dominance.

Sarmiento’s Struggles Begin Early

The visitors were on the back foot from the start, Julián Contrera earning a yellow card just two minutes in. Sarmiento’s frustration grew as their early attacks fizzled out, with Gimnasia’s compact midfield snuffing out danger. By halftime, Sarmiento coach Facundo Sava had seen enough, making a triple substitution in a desperate bid to change the game’s trajectory.

VAR Denies Gimnasia, But Not for Long

Gimnasia thought they’d doubled their lead in the 54th minute through Lucas Janson, only for VAR to intervene and chalk it off. But relief was short-lived for Sarmiento. In the 74th minute, substitute Franco Ramón Torres ghosted into the box and slotted home, sending the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo into raptures.

Gimnasia’s March Continues Unabated

With 56% possession and limiting Sarmiento to just three shots on target, Gimnasia’s victory never looked in doubt. The hosts’ seven fouls, compared to Sarmiento’s 20, told the story of a side in total control. As referee Nicolás Lamolina blew the final whistle, Gimnasia’s players embraced knowing their Clausura campaign stays firmly on track.

What This Means for Both Sides

For Gimnasia, this emphatic win keeps their Clausura title charge alive, their fifth victory in six games cementing their place among the league’s elite. Sarmiento, meanwhile, will rue missed opportunities, their four yellow cards symptomatic of a disjointed display. As Gimnasia set their sights on the summit, Sarmiento must regroup quickly before their season unravels.
