Deportivo Riestra
Deportivo Riestra and Union Santa Fe fought to a pulsating 1-1 draw in Argentina’s Liga Profesional Clausura, Round 13, a match defined by second-half drama and tactical reshuffles that left both sides ruing missed opportunities.
First Half: A Cagey Affair with Santa Fe Dominating Possession
The Estadio Guillermo Laza crackled with nervous energy as Union Santa Fe controlled 65% of first-half possession, probing Riestra’s stubborn 5-4-1 without breaking through. Marcelo Estigarribia’s late yellow card for a tactical foul on the stroke of halftime summed up the visitors’ mounting frustration against a disciplined Riestra backline.
Riestra’s Breakthrough: Randazzo Strikes Early After the Break
The home crowd erupted in the 50th minute when Juan Cruz Randazzo – playing his final minutes before being substituted – latched onto Mariano Bracamonte’s precise pass to slot home. Riestra’s direct approach paid dividends against the run of play, their 35% possession yielding three shots on target from just 13 total attempts all game.
Santa Fe Respond: Rubio Restores Parity
Leonardo Madelon’s side needed just seven minutes to respond through Tobias Javier Rubio’s composed finish, assisted by Lucas Ayala’s threaded pass. The goal came amid a flurry of substitutions from both managers – Riestra made five changes in 22 frantic minutes as Duró desperately sought to regain control of midfield.
Late Drama: Sansotre Booking Caps Tense Finale
Nicolás Sansotre’s 89th-minute yellow card for a cynical foul typified Riestra’s rearguard action late on, as Santa Fe’s numerical advantage in midfield (completing 402 accurate passes to Riestra’s 148) nearly told. Both goalkeepers made crucial saves – Mansilla denying two clear Riestra chances while Arce repelled four Santa Fe efforts – to preserve the stalemate.
What This Result Means for Both Sides
For mid-table Riestra, this hard-fought point against possession-dominant opponents proves their defensive resilience, registering five blocked shots. Santa Fe will lament failing to turn 65% control into three points despite Rubio’s clinical equalizer. With the Clausura reaching its midway point, both teams must find more cutting edge to challenge the upper echelons.
