Kaio Jorge Hat-Trick Sinks Gremio as Cruzeiro Win 4-2 Thriller

Cruzeiro stormed to a dramatic 4-2 victory over Gremio in Serie A Round 31, as Kaio Jorge’s hat-trick and Walter Kannemann’s red card turned the game on its head in Porto Alegre. The visitors came from behind twice before capitalizing on Gremio’s defensive collapse to claim a crucial away win.

Early Drama and Gremio’s Penalty Breakthrough

The hosts drew first blood after just 17 minutes when Carlos Vinícius coolly converted from the spot. Gremio’s early pressure paid dividends as they forced Cruzeiro’s defense into a costly error in the box.

Cruzeiro Fight Back Through Kaio Jorge

Kaio Jorge announced his arrival on the scene in the 23rd minute, firing home an equalizer after a slick assist from Matheus Pereira. The striker’s instinctive finish breathed life into Cruzeiro’s attack.

Gremio responded swiftly though, with Cristian Pavón restoring their lead in the 41st minute with a clinical finish. The Argentine winger’s goal sent the Arena do Grêmio crowd into raptures as the hosts took a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

Kaio Jorge Treble Turns the Tide

The second half was all about one man – Kaio Jorge. The 19-year-old striker headed home his second just three minutes after the restart, before completing his hat-trick in the 61st minute with another composed finish from William’s assist.

Gremio’s hopes of a comeback evaporated in the 73rd minute when Walter Kannemann picked up a second yellow card, leaving the hosts to play out the final 17 minutes with 10 men.

Cruzeiro Seal the Deal

Any lingering Gremio resistance was extinguished in the 80th minute when João Marcelo tapped in Cruzeiro’s fourth after Gerson’s assist. The visitors’ clinical finishing and superior possession (60%) proved decisive as they closed out a memorable away victory.

For Gremio, it was a disastrous collapse after such a promising start. Renato Gaúcho’s side will rue their defensive lapses and Kannemann’s dismissal as their Serie A ambitions took a major hit.

Cruzeiro, meanwhile, celebrated a crucial three points that keeps them firmly in the Serie A title race. Artur Jorge’s men showed incredible character to fight back twice before capitalizing on their numerical advantage. Kaio Jorge’s coming-of-age performance will live long in the memory of the Cruzeiro faithful.
