Palmeiras Shock Atletico PR 2-0 With 10 Men in Serie A Slog

Palmeiras pulled off a Houdini act in Serie A, surviving 50 minutes with 10 men to stun Atletico Paranaense 2-0 on their own patch through Maurício Prado and Joaquín Piquerez’s ruthless first-half blows.

Palmeiras’ Lightning Start Silences the Arena

The Arena da Baixada was still finding its voice when Maurício Prado silenced it. José López slipped him through after just six minutes, the striker coolly slotting past Mycael before the Atletico PR defense could blink. Three minutes later, chaos. Joaquín Piquerez intercepted a sloppy Gilberto pass – earning the fullback a yellow card for his sins – and curled a 25-yard beauty into the top corner. Two touches, two goals, shellshocked silence.

Atletico PR’s Possession Without Punch

Atletico Paranaense responded by pinning Palmeiras back, racking up 24 shots to Palmeiras’ six. But for all their 64% possession and 16 corners, only six efforts found the target – all swallowed by Carlos Miguel. The keeper’s best came in the 38th minute, tipping Claudinho’s rocket onto the bar. Palmeiras’ task grew harder when Andreas Pereira saw red for a studs-up lunge on Leozinho before halftime, setting up a siege.

Palmeiras’ Steel Wins the Day

Bruno Fuchs became a human wall, blocking four shots as Atletico PR threw everything forward. Substitute Eduardo Kogitzki headed against the post in the 89th minute, summing up their night. Palmeiras’ makeshift back five held firm – Murilo and Barboza throwing bodies into tackles as the xG stats (1.2 vs 0.38) mocked Atletico’s wastefulness.

The result leaves Palmeiras’ title push alive while gut-punching Atletico PR’s continental hopes. This wasn’t football – it was survival. And for 10 green-and-white warriors, it was enough.
