Villarreal Stun Napoli 3-1 in Champions League Thriller

Villarreal roared back from an early deficit to stun Napoli 3-1 in a pulsating UEFA Champions League League Stage – 2 encounter at Estadio de la Cerámica. Amir Rrahmani’s opener was cancelled out by Georges Mikautadze and Álvaro Santiago Mouriño González before Tani Oluwaseyi’s late strike sealed a memorable comeback.

Napoli Strike First Through Rrahmani

The visitors flew out of the traps, with Amir Rrahmani powering home an eighth-minute header to silence the home crowd. Napoli’s early dominance was reflected in their 58% possession in the opening quarter-hour, but Villarreal refused to buckle.

Mikautadze and Mouriño Turn the Tide

Georges Mikautadze levelled in the 23rd minute with a composed finish, before Álvaro Santiago Mouriño González completed the turnaround three minutes later, slotting home Gerard Moreno’s cut-back. The Yellow Submarine were in full flow, with their 52% possession and 16 total shots underlining their growing control.

Oluwaseyi Seals It Late

Despite Napoli’s triple substitution on the hour mark, Villarreal stayed resolute. Tani Oluwaseyi, on for the injured Gerard Moreno, put the game to bed in the 86th minute, drilling home Ayoze Pérez’s lay-off to spark bedlam in the stands.

What This Means for Both Teams

For Villarreal, this stirring comeback announces their return to Europe’s elite. Their next Champions League fixture feels winnable now. Napoli, meanwhile, must regroup quickly after a second-half collapse. Their title credentials face an immediate test in Matchday 3.
